About the Roots in Tomorrow Program

Recipients of the Grand Prize in the 2025 SFU Student-Community Engagement Competition!

The Roots in Tomorrow Program is a free, online tutoring resource that works towards creating equal access and opportunity to education. Our goal is to reach as many students as possible by creating a welcoming, encouraging, and comfortable environment where students receive support in individualized approaches.

Why We Started this Program

Through their own experiences in school and their work with children, the RITP executive team observed a lack of accessible academic support resources. Resources that do exist are unevenly distributed across the Lower Mainland and often have associated costs. With the rising cost of living in the current economy, many families are facing increasing financial constraints. We believe that any cost associated with tutoring can create a barrier to education.

A Problem We Know Personally

The lack of free educational support for Canadians has been experienced by family members of our team and our community partners. For one of our founding members, her grandparents did not have the finances for extra educational assistance to support her mother and her siblings through school.

Free Support That Makes a Difference

Our program exists to fill that gap, offering a free and accessible resource to aid in student comprehension of a fundamental curriculum for success. As equity is such an important topic, our program works to increase this amongst the diverse population of the lower mainland.

Our Community Partners

We’re proud to collaborate with local school districts, immigration support organizations, Indigenous support programs, and community groups to ensure every student has access to the resources they need. These partnerships help us reach families more effectively, provide culturally responsive support, and create a stronger, more inclusive learning environment for all.
